Christmas 2020

We have created a slideshow of festive images accompanied by our own Colebrook version of a well known Christmas song! Click here to see and hear it!!

To enable the children to have some fun and get into the festive spirit, we have planned lots of Christmas activities for them to take part in during December.

Find out what we have been up to below:

Christmas Door Decoration Competition

Mrs Scully's first surprise Christmas challenge this year was for each class to decorate their classroom door with a fun and festive design.  On Friday 4th December, Mrs Scully and her elves looked at each classroom door to choose a winner. The doors were all so fabulous that they decided to award each class tokens for their class tube. Special mentions and extra tokens were given to Miss Cooper's class (Venus) in the lower school and Miss Voaden's class (Neptune) in the upper school.

Well done to everyone, it is lovely to see the school looking more festive by the day!

Christmas Wishes

Each class were given a set of Red, White and Green strips of paper. The children have written some lovely Christmas wishes on the white paper and they have been joined with the red and green to make colourful paper chains for each classroom.

Christmas Cards

This year we decided we would like to do something for the community. There are over 900 residents in care homes across Swindon and we thought it would be great if each individual could receive a Christmas card from a primary school child. Every child in school designed and made a Christmas card with a hand-written message inside, ready for them to be collected by volunteers and delivered around Swindon. Here are some examples:

Christmas British Sign Language

Due to the fact that we're not allowed to sing this year, we had to find a new way of enjoying some festive songs. Mrs Scully challenged the Lower School to learn BSL to Jingle Bells and the Upper School to learn Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer. Each class performed via Teams and it was a joyful occasion.

Logic Problems and Snowman Drive

'Who won the race?' Logic ProblemWe were given a selection of information and the task of finding out 'Who won the race?'. Some of the information was useful and some had been included to try and throw us off. Santa, Rudolph, Blitzen and Buddy the Elf were competing to get the finish line. In the end... Blitzen was triumphant!

Snowman DriveThe aim of the game is to be the first player to draw a complete snowman. The body parts are each given a number. Players take turns to roll a die and add the corresponding body part to their snowman. They must however throw a 6 first for the body before they can add any other part. The children had great fun and the adults even had a go to!

Why not try the game at home!

Wreath Making

Each class were given a set of cardboard wreaths and a selection of festive materials to decorate them with. They all look fabulous and so different! Here are the results:

Story Writing

Mrs Scully gave each class a framed picture of a white rabbit on skis. The challenge was to write a story about the picture. Easy I hear you cry! But oh no! It was a 'pass the story on' challenge. Miss Coffey and Mars had to start the story and write the introduction. They then passed it to Mercury, where Mr Souch and his class carried the story on. Mr Morris and Jupiter had the job of writing the ending.  Each class decided how the story continued. The final story was then read by Mrs Scully via Teams!

We think it turned out really well! Why not read it for yourselves...
