Morfa Bay Diary

Monday 20th June 2016

Mr Morris  contacted Mrs Scully at 11.56 a.m. to let her know they arrived safely. The weather was wet and miserable for the entire journey but as soon as they got to Pendine, there was sunshine and blue skies! Let's hope it lasts!

Update from Morfa Bay

This is Morfa Bay signing in with their first instalment of the Morfa Bay Diary. As always, the children were super behaved on the coach and the journey was pretty uneventful. Highlights for the children were certainly the access to a range of sweeties at their disposal. Needless to say many supplies were devoured before we had even reached Wales!

On arrival the children were assigned their dorms and all seem pleased. The have already got into organisation mode and have begun to think about how they can keep them tidy, knowing that the dreaded room inspections begin in the morning.

The children were thrown straight into their activities this afternoon and the time was spent scouring the shoreline for crabs, starfish, jellyfish and much more as part of the rocky shore studies. Two groups braved the climbing wall and the High Ropes Challenge. I have to be honest though and say today was more low ropes than high ropes. The children pushed themselves to go as high as they could but nobody reached the top beam. The final group took to the mountain bike course and demonstrated some excellent skills tackling the berms, table top jumps and log beams. We were very impressed.

This evening was spent hiking the cliffs and the children were thoroughly exhausted by the end of it. Some children complained of a stitch on the initial downhill hike to the beach. We didn’t have the heart to tell them at this stage that they still had an hour and a half ahead of them, which consisted of significant uphill!

Morfa Bay Quote of the Day:

When walking across the lush Welsh clifftops, one child remarked:

“This is beautiful, isn’t it where they filmed the Lion King?”

We will update you in the morning!

Well what can we say... we managed to get some sleep... Mostly the children settled well last night. The final walk around and listening at doors was just gone midnight. However a small group of boys were a little slow to settle and very early to rise. They will learn the hard way though, as the activities progress they will realise that sleep is crucial. I look forward to seeing their tired little faces tomorrow morning!

A great morning has been had so far, the children thoroughly enjoyed the sea activities and made the most of the sunshine that's just starting to break through.
