Morfa Bay Wednesday

Greetings everyone back home!

Today was the day that all of the children were waiting for. We knew that the sea activities up until this point was a clear favourite amongst the group, however this was soon to be taken over by the infamous Morfa Bay Assault course.

It has to be said that this year was without a doubt the muddiest we have ever experienced; by the end of the session, the children were covered from head to toe. From soldier crawling through 5 inch deep mud, to laying back and creating mud angels, the children really threw themselves into the thick of it… quite literally. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did the staff.

Groups went to the beach for the ‘Rocky Shore Study’ session and scoured the rock pools for signs of life. I have to say that this year the pickings were slim. Regardless of the children’s efforts, the big crabs were rather elusive this time around. However, their efforts were rewarded with the discovery of a hermit crab!

Children took to the woods for orienteering with varying degrees of success. Regardless though of whether they knew their north from south or how to follow a map, they all proved that they could work well as a team and shared responsibility. There were smiles all around!

Morfa Bay Quote of the Day:

On discovering life in the rock pools, children were required to identify (using a key) what they had found. Clearly some were much more knowledgeable than others. Whilst looking at a sea anemone, one child remarked:

“I don’t need the book to identify that one; I know it, that’s a bush baby, yep definitely a bush baby.”
